A disruptive passenger on a B.C. Transit bus was arrested by Saanich police Monday morning after allegedly assaulting the driver.

Around 8:30 a.m., the passenger began yelling profanities at another person who had just sat down, said Saanich police spokesperson Const. Markus Anastasiades.

When the bus arrived at the next stop, in the 1600-block of Cedar Hill Cross Road, the driver asked the man to leave. Police said the passenger refused, then approached the driver, yelled profanities and tried to initiate a fight.

The man then reached around the clear safety divider and tried to assault the driver, Anastasiades said.

A physical altercation ensued and the man left the bus.

Saanich police were called and officers arrested a 34-year-old man. He is facing one count of assault.

The driver was not injured.
