A wildfire that broke out out in early August on Green Mountain, southwest of Nanaimo, is considered under control.

Donna MacPherson of the Coastal Fire Centre said that crews have not able to get to some sections of the terrain but they are comfortable that any activity will stay within the perimeter that has been established.

“There will be spots in the middle that will still have a little bit of heat and may periodically put out a few puffs of smoke.”

The fire reached a size of 16.9 hectares.

MacPherson said the only other fire to report in the Vancouver Island area is a small blaze on Pender Island. The B.C. Wildfire Service was helping island firefighters but it is completely in local hands, MacPherson said.

The fire-danger rating from Nanaimo to Victoria is moderate to high and there is no precipitation in the forecast for the lower Island over the next five days, she said.

She urged people to be careful with campfires.

A two-hectare fire that started July 21 in Mill Hill Regional Park in Langford is now out. It is considered to be human-caused.
