Just how rainy was that wet weekend on Vancouver Island?

But don't fret, there's plenty of sun in the forecast for Victoria this week

Heavy rain pounded parts of Vancouver Island on the weekend as an “atmospheric river” hammered the B.C. Coast, said Environment Canada.

Ucluelet was the hardest hit with 210 millimetres of rain.

Here’s a summary of rainfall totals in millimetres collected by Environment Canada for Saturday and Sunday until 4 p.m:

  • Malahat: 33
  • Victoria University: 27
  • Esquimalt Harbour: 35
  • Bowser: 53
  • Tofino: 167
  • Ucluelet: 210
  • North Courtenay: 42
  • Campbell RIver: 23
  • Zeballos: 106

By comparison, the Lower Mainland was not as wet as Vancouver Island’s West Coast:

  • Vancouver Harbour: 66
  • Vancouver International Airport: 34
  • Pitt Meadows: 49
  • White Rock: 30
  • Lynn Valley: 99
  • West Vancouver: 69
  • Abbotsford Airport: 42
  • Eagle Ridge: 61
  • Agassiz: 45
  • Cultus Lake: 37
  • Squamish: 70
  • Port Mellon: 102
  • Brandywine: 64
  • Pender Harbour: 40
  • Westwood Plateau: 117

In addition to rain, the atmospheric river also brought warm temperatures to B.C., and new records were set in several communities. 

On the Island, temperatures reached 15.9 C at Victoria International Airport, edging out the 15.6 C mark set in 1932. Records have been kept at the airport since 1932. Campbell River reached 12.0 C, breaking a record of 11.7 C from 1976. Records have been kept in that area since 1958.

Things are looking up in Greater Victoria this week with sunshine in the forecast today through Friday, with highs of 9 C and 11 C. More details here.
