A police search of a suspicious vehicle in Black Creek turned up a loaded 9-mm handgun under the seat where one male passenger was sitting, and a .22-calibre handgun and ammunition in the area where a second man was sitting.

North Vancouver Island Traffic Services officers from Campbell River were patrolling late in the evening of Nov. 8 when they saw the vehicle, with three occupants, parked near mailboxes in a rural area.

The woman at the wheel was unable to produce a driver’s licence, while one of the two male passengers gave a false name. More investigation determined who the man was and that he had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

During the arrest of the wanted man, police found him found to be wearing a shoulder holster and in possession of suspected narcotics.

The second man was also arrested and the vehicle was towed to a secure location for a further search. Police located a sawed-off shotgun, an SKS rifle and ammunition for both, along with the ID, jewelry and additional suspected narcotics.

The public is urged to report suspicious activity to local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
