Victoria police seized a replica firearm from a vehicle in Quadra Village after a report of the weapon prompted a brief lockdown of two nearby schools.

Officers responded to Quadra Street just after 9 a.m. after a caller reported that a man had been seen brandishing a gun outside a nearby school, said police spokesman Bowen Osoko.

Quadra Elementary School and an educational building called the Quadra Warehouse were locked down as police searched the area.

Police found the replica handgun inside a nearby vehicle. They located the vehicle owner nearby and he confirmed he showed the handgun to a workmate. Police seized the replica handgun and the lockdown was lifted just after 10 a.m.
