Shawnigan Lake RCMP are asking for the public’s help as they investigate an attempted robbery by a male wearing a clown wig.

Police said the incident happened about 9 p.m. Oct. 30 at a fireworks stand on Trowsee Road in Mill Bay.

A firearm was pointed at the victim, a struggle broke out and the would-be robber fled with two accomplices, leaving the victim uninjured.

Two males and a female took off in a white Ford Ranger with a black canopy. One male had a wig with long clown hair that covered most of his face.

“When the suspects fled the scene, they may have damaged their getaway vehicle by driving over a culvert because the vehicle was found inoperative and abandoned,” said B.C. RCMP Cpl. Chris Manseau.

A police dog was called in, but no one was found.

The truck turned out to have been stolen earlier in the day from a local business, and was examined by forensic officers.

The male in the clown wig was at least six feet tall and about 240 pounds with a tattoo on his left wrist near his hand. The female was tall with dark hair and was wearing baggy athletic pants and a medical mask.

There was no description of the other male, who police said had minimal involvement.

Police ask anyone with information to call Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514, local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
