NORTH VANCOUVER — A North Vancouver music teacher has been arrested amid allegations of sexual misconduct involving underage girls in Coquitlam.

Lamar Alviar, 22, has been arrested after a series of allegations of sexual misconduct involving underage girls in Coquitlam.

Lamar Victor Alviar, 22, teaches at LA Music Studio, a private music academy in North Vancouver’s Central Lonsdale neighbourhood. According to the business’s website, Alviar, a multi-instrumentalist who has been teaching music since age 16, is also the studio’s owner.

The Facebook page for LA Music Studio describes the business as “a great location safe for children.”

While Alviar hasn’t been charged, Mounties in Coquitlam released his name Thursday because they believe there are more victims who haven’t come forward.

“There is reason to believe [Alviar] has had inappropriate contact with young people around Metro Vancouver,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, in a Coquitlam RCMP statement.

“The allegations involving Alviar include both students and non-students. Police believe there is a strong likelihood that there are victims and witnesses who have not yet spoken to police.”

Alviar has been released from custody, but is barred from contacting, communicating or being alone with anyone who reasonably appears to be under age 16.

Anyone who believes that they, or someone they know, has been victimized is urged to call the Coquitlam RCMP sex-crimes division.
