One person dead after early morning crash in Vic West

One person is dead after a car crashed into a hydro pole on Skinner Street early Friday. Victoria police patrol officers received a report of a single vehicle crash in the 200-block of Skinner Street near Catherine Street about 3 a.m.

One person is dead after a car crashed into a hydro pole on Skinner Street early Friday.

Victoria police patrol officers received a report of a single vehicle crash in the 200-block of Skinner Street near Catherine Street about 3 a.m. Officers arriving at the scene found the car on fire and the driver fatally injured.

People living nearby rushed to help the driver and provided emergency first aid. Police took over until B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived and transported the driver to hospital.

Police have not said if the driver was a man or a woman.

“Our thoughts are with their family today,” said a statement by Victoria police.

The road was closed for several hours while the collision reconstruction team and traffic officers gathered evidence.
