Police chase down driver in Chemainus crash

A two-vehicle collision in Chemainus led to an off-duty RCMP officer chasing one of the drivers on foot. North Cowichan RCMP said the collision occurred about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday and the officer had happened by as the man decided to run.

A two-vehicle collision in Chemainus led to an off-duty RCMP officer chasing one of the drivers on foot.

North Cowichan RCMP said the collision occurred about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday and the officer had happened by as the man decided to run.

After alerting police dispatchers, the officer followed the driver into nearby wood.

Responding officers were able to set up containment around the area and it was soon discovered that one of the vehicles in the crash had been reported stolen earlier in the day from Victoria.

A 29-year-old Duncan man was located and taken into custody.

The other vehicle involved had five occupants, with one reported to have minor injuries. She was treated at the Chemainus Health Care Centre.
