Nanaimo RCMP continue to investigate a three-vehicle collision on July 23 that involved two motorcycles and a car.

The two motorcycle riders sustained significant injuries that require hospital treatment.

The roadway was closed for several hours after the incident near Turner Road and Island Highway North about 11 p.m.

Police determined that three motorcyclists were travelling north behind an older-model Mazda when one of them rear-ended the vehicle. The motorcyclist lost control, leading to a collision with a second motorcyclist.

The driver of the Mazda and the third motorcyclist were unhurt.

Both injured motorcyclists are now recovering at home.

Police are asking to hear from anyone who saw the crash and has not yet spoken to them. As well, people who were driving in the area at the time are asked to review dashcam footage.
