Heavy rain is in the forecast for the north and west coasts of Vancouver Island, with up to 100 millimetres of rain anticipated in some parts.
Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for Sunday, saying between 50 to 70 mm of rain is expected to hit most communities in the Island’s north and along the west coast of the Island, including Port Hardy and Tofino.
More rain is forecast near Zeballos and Port Alice, which could see up to 100 mm.
Environment Canada warned that flooding in low-lying areas is possible and urged people to look for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
Environment Canada meteorologist Dave Wray said heavy rainfall was expected to ease late Sunday afternoon, followed by about 10 to 20 mm of rain Sunday night and again Monday.
The rainfall comes after nearly a week of cold weather and heavy snowfall, which saw more than 30 centimetres fall in some parts of the Island.
Islanders can look forward to a return to seasonal mild winter temperatures this week, Wray said.
