Firefighters were at the scene of a small wildfire Wednesday about 40 kilometres north of Campbell River that initially reduced traffic on Highway 19 to one lane.

Coastal Fire Centre information officer Dorthe Jakobsen said the fire started Tuesday afternoon after a tree blew down and fell on power lines.

The fire was reported about 5 p.m. and was covering about .25 hectare Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a fire discovered Sunday near Sproat Lake, outside Port Alberni, was holding steady at about 1.8 hectares on Wednesday. It is suspected to be human caused.

Also on Wednesday, a brush fire on Henlyn Drive in Sooke was reported to be 100 per cent contained by late afternoon. The Sooke Fire Department said that crews were dealing with dangerous trees, along with hot spots and gusting winds.
