Central Saanich police has issued another round of tickets to excessive speeders, including one with the oldest excuse in the book: “I need to make the last ferry.”

The ferry-goer was in a Toyota Camry travelling 155 kilometres an hour in an 80 km/h zone on the Patricia Bay Highway near Island View Road about 8:15 p.m. Monday. Police said the car was weaving between other vehicles without signalling and failed to stop.

The result was $817 in fines, 12 penalty points and an impound of the vehicle.

Fast forward to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, when a Chevrolet Tracker was clocked at 129 km/h, also in an 80 zone. The outcome was a $368 fine, 12 points and a vehicle impound.

“8:15 p.m. or 5:30 a.m., officers are out there,” police said in a tweet.
