A new set of 190 stairs has been installed at Nanaimo’s waterfront Seabold Rotary Park.

Construction began in September using Vancouver Island yellow cedar and was recently completed.

A winding staircase was built on the hillside in the 1990s but it was damaged by bad weather in 2018 and closed to keep citizens safe.

The elevation from the beach to the top of the stairs is 40 metres.

Located at 6695 Seabold Dr., the park is on the north end of Nanaimo, south of Lantzville, providing access to area beaches.

“It is great to be able to have this popular amenity at Seabold Rotary Park back and available for Nanaimo’s citizens,” Art Groot, Nanaimo’s director of facility and parks operations, said in a statement.
