Suspicious fire destroys two homes in Alert Bay; suspects under 18

Alert Bay RCMP are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed two homes Monday night. Suspects under 18 have been identified. One of the homes was vacant and the owner of the other was away. Police were called about 7 p.m.

Alert Bay RCMP are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed two homes Monday night.

Suspects under 18 have been identified.

One of the homes was vacant and the owner of the other was away.

Police were called about 7 p.m. and found that a fire had engulfed one home and jumped to another. The fire than spread to a grassy and wooded area close to a gravel pit. Local residents helped to contain the fire.

Alert Bay firefighters were assisted by the Port McNeill Fire Department, which arrived via ferry.

Alert Bay RCMP were joined by their counterparts in Port McNeill and Port Hardy.
