Several Victoria police officers were assaulted over the past few days, beginning with an incident about 11 p.m. Friday in which a woman refused to leave a temporary housing facility on Gorge Road East.
The woman, whom police described as “aggressive,” was arrested and placed in a police vehicle, then attacked an officer. The officer was able to complete her shift.
The woman faces charges of assaulting a police officer, mischief and possession of a controlled substance.
On Saturday, police responded to a report of a woman in crisis harming herself in the 2400 block of Douglas Street. After she was taken into protective custody under the Mental Health Act, she spat in the face of one officer, and struck and spat on another.
Concern about COVID-19 and other diseases means the officers will need medical monitoring.
That was followed on Monday by officers called to deal with a man reported to be using a metal pole to break a bus window near Hillside Avenue and Quadra Street. As police moved to arrest him, he dropped the pole and became combative with three officers.
A conducted-energy weapon was used to subdue the man.
Three charges of assault, one of resisting arrest and one of mischief are being recommended.
