A Langford homeowner with three children was awakened by a woman crying and knocking on her front door at 3:22 a.m.

That was followed by the sound of breaking glass in a basement window, at which point West Shore RCMP were called to the home in the 2000 block of Sooke Road, on Thursday.

The homeowner hid in an upstairs bedroom with the children until police arrived.

A distraught woman was found inside.

She was not known to the homeowner and was believed to be under the influence of narcotics.

West Shore RCMP said it was “a scary ordeal” but no one was hurt.
