Delta libraries are giving the public a chance to learn more about local ports at upcoming presentations.

Jeff Scott, president and CEO of the Fraser Surrey Docks LP, will present Inside Fraser Surrey Docks on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at George Mackie Library.

Fraser Surrey Docks has been operating on the Fraser River since 1962. Every year, the multi-purpose marine terminal welcomes about 300 ships and handles millions of tonnes of cargo.

Those at the free presentation will learn about the terminal, the types of commodities it handles, the economic importance of the Fraser River and more.

Registration is required. Registration deadline is Jan. 17.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority presents Patrolling the Port on Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Ladner Pioneer Library and 7 to 8:15 p.m. at George Mackie Library.

Keeping Canada’s largest port safe and efficient is a 24/7 responsibility. Learn about the global perspective on local shipping, who oversees marine safety and why harbour patrol inspects ships.

Registration is required. Registration deadline is Feb. 14.

Register for both presentations online at portvancouver.com/delta, by calling 604-665-9635 or in person at the Port of Vancouver Delta Community Office in Ladner’s Trenant Park Square.
