Sad news for fans of homestyle meat loaf and deliciously crusty pie.

The owners of Gastown's cosy Acme Cafe announced today (Nov. 16) on Facebook that the restaurant has been sold, and that the new owners plan to put up the brown paper and reopen with a new concept. Located at 51 W. Hastings St. in the historic Paris Block, the sprawling retro-heritage space was a haven for harried freelancers and people in search of a quiet cup of coffee out of the rain.

"It has been the adventure of a lifetime and we wouldn’t change a thing, but now it’s time for us to start a new chapter," wrote the owners, Peggy and Alan Hoffman. "We will miss working with our incredible staff, visiting with our regulars, and all the out-of-towners who always came in to say hi, more than we can possibly say. You have become friends and family."

The diner, which opened in April of 2010, will serve its last dish on Nov. 28.
