Stage 43 Theatrical Society is getting ready to kick off its 2019/20 season with a classic and campy Halloween horror.

The Creature Creeps!, written by Jack Sharkey, is onstage at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam from Oct. 17 to 26.

The play is set in the parlour of the Castle Von Blitzen in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania. The company is promising some “old school style” Halloween spirit, with “an ancient castle, creaking doors, a mad scientist, his misshapen assistant, a grim housekeeper, secret laboratory, shrieks from the depths of the cellar, disappearing villagers, an incredibly stalwart and stupid hero of sterling character, the scientist’s absolutely dopey daughter, and so many laughs you’ll lose count,” as a press release tells it.

Three New Westminster residents are in the cast: Kenneth Bablitz as Donald Von Blitzen, Gina Raye Young as Hannah Zitzen and Caitlin Stanley as Heidi Zitzen.

The Creature Creeps! is on Thursday, Oct. 17 through Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.; and Wednesday, Oct. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m.

Individual show tickets are on sale through www.stage43.org/tickets or at the Evergreen box office, 604-927-6555.

Wednesday, Oct. 23 has special two-for-one pricing on single adult tickets, using the discount code CREATURE.

Opening night (Oct. 17) includes a cast and crew mix-and-mingle reception after the show, with refreshments from season sponsors The Saint St. Grill and Blue Heron Fruit Winery.

Partial proceeds from The Creature Creeps’ ticket sales will be donated to New View Society (www.newviewsociety.org).
