The COVID-19 pandemic can’t stop the New West Cultural Crawl.

The annual self-guided cultural tour of New West has announced its return for 2020. Previously a favourite of the summer season in the city, it’s now being scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18.

For those two days, artists and arts organizations will open the doors of their galleries, studios and other venues to show off their art and workspaces and to talk to culture-lovers who come through their doors. It’s a family-friendly event, and visitors can visit venues of their choice, at their own pace, to meet the professional and emerging artists who live and work in the city.

The free two-day festival is now in its 17th year. It has evolved from a one-day “art walk” in 2003, when it featured eight venues, a handful of artists and fewer than 400 visitors, to a showcase of more than 150 artists with more than 4,000 visitors to more than 30 venues around the city.

It’s set to take place on Oct. 17 and 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

All venues will be adhering to COVID-19 health and safety regulations, and organizers note that some venues will now require pre-booking.

The New West Cultural Crawl is hosted in partnership with Van Dop Gallery and the Arts Council of New Westminster.
