A Queen’s Park family is hoping to raise their 1929 home in order to create more living space in the basement.
On Nov. 25, council will consider a development variance permit application from the owners of 221 St. Patrick St. to raise the house by 0.4 metres (1.2 feet) to a height of 8.2 metres (to 26.94 feet), which is 0.6 metres (1.94 feet) above the height limit. The request is being made so the house can accommodate an eight-foot-high ceiling in the basement.
“The proposed variance is considered reasonable as it would provide a community benefit of ensuring its continued viability through enabling increased livable floor area without impacting the neighbourhood character in a heritage house that has been part of the 200 block of St. Patrick Street for 90 years,” said a staff report.
An opportunity to comment about the variance application will be held on Monday, Nov. 25.
