The start of a new rugby season brings hope and wet weather.

The United Rugby Club's women's first game of the season was blessed with both rain and a win.

They knocked off the Scirbes 29-5 on Saturday, getting a big performance from Taylor Einhorn. The former star midfielder with Capilano University's women's soccer team counted two tries and kicked two converts to set the tone for the young squad. Also notching tries were Alex Darts, Yvonne Lai and Penelope Saverton, while No. 8 Marlena Holynski was a dynamo in racking up the tackles. Also playing well was fullback Lisa O'Neill.

United looks to keep the winning going with this weekend's game in Maple Ridge.

The rugby program, which plays its home games at Hume Park, continues to look for new players. If interested, visit www.unitedrugby.ca
