B.C.'s minor lacrosse teams settled for a silver-medal sweep at the Canadian minor lacrosse national championships in Whitby, Ont. The provincial midget, bantam and peewee boys' team all fell to powerhouse Ontario in the goldmedal finals on Saturday.

The provincial midget, bantam and peewee boys' team all fell to powerhouse Ontario in the goldmedal finals on Saturday.

The midget squad, including New Westminster's Sean Fitzsimmons, Jordan McKenzie, Connor Robinson and Mitchell Stokes, lost 9-5 to Ontario in the final.

B.C., runner-up finisher in the earlier round-robin competition, knocked off third-place Alberta 13-5 in the semifinal on Aug. 10.

Both B.C. and Ontario finished the preliminary round with similar 6-1 records.

Ontario earned a bye into the final owing to its 10-2 win over the West Coast reps on Aug. 7.

B.C. defeated Alberta 5-3 on the opening day of competition. They also edged fourth-place Iroquois 8-6.

Robinson scored eight goals and added seven assists for B.C. to finish in fourth place in overall midget scoring in the round robin.

Fitzsimmons had four goals and 10 points, while Stokes contributed six points, includ-ing a couple of goals. McKenzie chipped in with three assists.

The B.C. bantam team also placed second, following a 6-4 loss to unbeaten Team Ontario in the Commissioners national championships, held in conjunction with the midgets in Whitby.

Naoll Degife of New Westminster pitched in with two points for B.C.

The bantam boys finished third with a record of 4-2 in the seven-team competition following losses to both Ontario and Iroquois 4-3 on Aug. 8.

B.C. came back to upset Iroquois 5-4 in the semifinal to move into the national final.

Burnaby's Tavin Grant finished second in provincial team scoring with four goals and seven assists. Lucas Greene of Burnaby also garnered a goal and four helpers for B.C.

The provincial peewee team also finished third after the preliminary round behind unbeaten Ontario and Alberta.

B.C., including New Westminster's Cole Catton, John Edin, Harjot Mahal and Finn Stark, recorded a 6-2 record in pool play at the E.G. Dopp peewee natonals.

The B.C. reps lost 6-3 to Alberta on the opening, but came back to upset its provincial neighbour 73 in the semifinals to move into the gold-medal matchup with Ontario.

In the gold-medal final, B.C. was bounced 5-1 by Ontario. B.C. also lost to Ontario 5-2 earlier in the competition.

Mahal led the Royal City connection in overall scoring with four goals and seven assists in the eight-game round robin.

Stark was close behind with three counters and nine total points.

Catton contributed a pair of tallies and as many helpers, while Edin also figured in B.C. peewee team scoring with a couple of assists.

Iroquois Nation finished fourth in the peewee competition with a 5-3 record.
