Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Ocean View Funeral Home offer a wide range of unique and helpful funeral services to the New Westminster community, many of which were originally developed in other communities around North America.

“We offer a variety of original programs that have found success elsewhere,” says Andrew Knapman, manager of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. “It’s been a huge benefit having multiple funeral homes across the continent to draw from.”

Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Ocean View Funeral Home are each a part of the Dignity Memorial® network.

Dignity Memorial® is North America’s largest provider of funerals, cremations, and cemetery services. As a result, staff at each funeral home has the advantage of studying different techniques and services offered in other Dignity Memorial® locations across the continent.

Some of their unique products include a bereavement travel program, full access to a grief management library, and a 24-hour compassion line.

“Many people don’t think they’re going to use the compassion line at first,” Knapman says. “But at 3 a.m., two months after your mom has passed away—most people aren’t comfortable calling someone and waking them up. That’s when the compassion line becomes very useful. You can connect with someone, rather than lie there with insomnia.”

The compassion line connects grieving family members to psychologists who hold either a master’s degree or PhD in social work. They’re available to speak at any hour and in any language.

The bereavement travel program, meanwhile, helps people book flights and hotels, and is available up to a year after a funeral for any funeral-related travel. Forest Lawn and Ocean View also offer a child/grandchild protection plan, where if your child or grandchild passes away unmarried and under 21 years of age, funeral services are provided at no cost.

“We really strive to focus on our customer,” says Knapman. “They become part of our family. And we make sure the services we provide are as special as they are.”

Dignity Memorial® received a J.D. Power award for service excellence, earning a score of 950/1000 in a satisfaction survey conducted by the global research company.
