JAK's is donating a percentage of sales of three Gratitude wines sold in May and 10% of sales on Saturday, May 30 to local food banks.

JAK’s Beer Wine & Spirits is lending a helping hand to food banks across B.C.

On Saturday, May 30, the 13 JAK’s locations across the province will be donating 10% of their sales to food banks. The New Westminster store, located at 517 Seventh St., is participating in the event.

“As a family business we’re deeply connected to the communities we serve, and now more than ever we feel called to give back to those in need – and give gratitude to the selfless food bank staff and volunteers who are keeping shelves stocked at food banks across BC,” JAK’s chief operating officer Tim Dumas said in a press release.

The second annual JAK’s Gives Back campaign will donate 10% the sale of beverages bought in-store or online on May 30 to food banks.

Cynthia Boulter, chief operating officer for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, said the organization is grateful to have community partners like JAK’s, who not only raise funds through their proceeds, but also help to spread awareness about food insecurity and needs that exist.

“The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is expecting an unprecedented level of need to emerge in the next three to six months, and with your help we will be prepared,” she said in a news release. “We are already seeing an increase in the number of brand new clients to the food bank, as well as people coming back who have not had to use the food bank for years. We are here to help all of them, with healthy food and a welcoming team.”

JAK’s is also contributing to the food bank in another way in May.

“Since JAK’s team can’t physically raise a glass with guests this year due to social distancing, they’re also donating $1 from every bottle of JAK’s Gratitude wine sold this month to local food banks,” said the press release. “It’s their way of showing extra gratitude one bottle at a time.”

JAK’s recently teamed up with Okanagan Crush Pad in Summerland on Gratitude, a limited release consisting of a 2018 red, a 2019 rosé and a 2019 pinot blanc.
