Women - and others interested in mental health - are invited to attend the New Westminster Council of Women's meeting on Sept. 25.

The New Westminster Council of Women is kicking off its fall program with a look at mental health issues.

The group is meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the second floor lounge at Wesley Manor, 815 Kennedy St. (a small street just off of Eighth Street between Third and Fourth avenues).

“Join us to hear about how the combination of the housing crisis in the Lower Mainland and overworked mental health services are creating challenges for one family,” said a notice about the event. “Please come and share your experiences, insights and ideas.”

The event is free of charge, but the New Westminster Council of Women appreciates small donations to cover the cost of light refreshments.

Lesley Hebert, treasurer of the New Westminster Council of Women, said the group is primarily a women's organization, but the event is open to anyone who is impacted by or interested in the topic.

“The New Westminster Council of Women, has a long history in the Royal City. It is a chapter of the National Council of Women of Canada, a network of advocacy groups founded in 1893 which is one of Canada's oldest women's organizations,” said an email to the Record. “Our goal is to empower women to work together to improve the lives of women, families and communities.”
