The Douglas College women’s soccer team maintained its unbeaten streak, edging Capilano University 2-1 on Saturday and battling fellow undefeated rival Vancouver Island to a 1-1 standstill on Sunday.

Olivia Ortiz’s goal in the 76th minute proved to be the difference in the win over the Blues.

Douglas College opened the scoring, when New West’s Taylor Spong buried the first shot of the game just two minutes into the contest. Capilano pulled even on Adrianna Babinski’s tally just before the 60th minute.

Tess Venables turned aside four shots to record the win.

A day later, the Royals again struck first but needed some stellar play from Venables to earn the single point.

Alyssa Lum notched her second goal of the season just six minutes after the opening kick. Vancouver Island tied it on Taylor Kinley’s marker midway through the second half.

Venables make seven saves, while VIU’s Melanie Osborne had to stop five Douglas shots.

The Royals, who sit atop the PacWest women's standings at 3-0-1, head to Langara on Saturday and host Capilano on Sunday.
