Company that bought crumbling Steve Nash Fitness not making Amazing Brentwood Burnaby move

For about a year, signs saying “Steve Nash Fitness World” have adorned the Amazing Brentwood shopping centre expansion and residential development.

It was to be one of the flagship outlets greeting shoppers and new residents of this burgeoning mini-city that will include multiple residential towers.

That move appears to have fallen apart as the company that bought the now-bankrupt Steve Nash Fitness World says it doesn’t plan on moving into the Amazing Brentwood.

The Steve Nash Fitness World company that operated multiple gyms in Burnaby - on Lougheed Highway, just west of the Amazing Brentwood, in Lougheed Town Centre and on Kingsway in South Burnaby - recently had its sale approved by the BC Supreme Court to FW Fitness BC Ltd.

The NOW contacted the new Fitness World through its media contact, Avenue PR, and was told the company plans to continue on with the Kingsway and Lougheed Town Centre locations, but will not be moving into the Amazing Brentwood.

“Right now, Fitness World is waiting for licence approval for two locations in Burnaby,” read an emailed response. “The Amazing Brentwood mall is not on the list of clubs opening.”

Recently, the old Brentwood location was taken over by Club 16 Trevor Linden Fitness and is set to open in September.

The NOW contacted the Amazing Brentwood and was told it was unclear what the new Fitness World would be doing, but the plan is to have a fitness facility operating in the centre sometime in the future.

FW Fitness BC Ltd. made an offer to acquire the assets of SNFW Fitness B.C. Ltd. for $9 million, and a 30% equity stake in FW Fitness BC.

Shareholders of FW Fitness BC include SNFW Fitness CEO Chris Smith, and an owner of the company believed to be Mark Mastrov, co-founder of SNFW Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness.

The sale of SNFW Fitness took place under creditor protection.
