Legendary restaurant reopens just in time for spot prawn season

Spring brings us one of B.C.’s most celebrated ingredients - spot prawns. Spring is also a time of rejuvenation for local business hammered by the COVID-19 pandemic. A new phase of the B.C.

Spring brings us one of B.C.’s most celebrated ingredients - spot prawns.

Spring is also a time of rejuvenation for local business hammered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new phase of the B.C. Restart Plan means more restaurants are finding ways to reopen.

One of my all-time favourites has come up with a safety plan and a devastating meal offering with a focus on spot prawns.

For more than 30 years, te legendary Tojo’s internationally recognized for creating exquisite food served as an art form. The dishes are fresh, unique and modern, rooted in Japanese fine dining traditions with a distinct Pacific Northwest perspective, using the finest seasonal, local and organic ingredients.

Tojo’s will be trying to lure back customers by offering a special Spot Prawn Omakase dinner at the restaurant and also a Spot Prawn Kit to be enjoyed at home. The dining room will be reopening June 1, and the Spot Prawn offerings will be available June 5.

Spot Prawn Omakase

This dine-in only experience will feature a half-pound of Spot Prawns with special Tojo’s sauce. Delicate and sweet, the prawns are well-suited for nigiri, so Tojo has also chosen to prepare them this way. His much-loved Zucchini Blossom Tempura will also be featured, here a local blossom is filled with a delicate fish mousse and lightly fried, tempura style. Diners may enjoy this offering for $80 per person, the same price as the regular omakase menu.

Tojo’s Spot Prawn Kit

Bring home the delicate and sweet flavours of the season in this exclusive kit. Fresh Spot Prawns pair perfectly with the medium flavoured hake. A wholesome chirashi bowl bursts with spring ingredients includes; burdock root, wood ear mushroom and asparagus. Each kit serves two and is available for $88.

Tojo’s will be open Monday – Saturday, from 4:00-6:00 pm for Cocktail Hour, and from 5:00PM for Dinner Service with the last seating at 8:00pm. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant at 604-872-050 or online here.
