Pet store overcomes pandemic uncertainty to open Burnaby location

This isn’t what any retailer would consider an ideal time to open a new store. But pets still need caring for and people will do anything for their pets. Which is why Global Pet Foods has opened a new location at 4293 Hastings St. in Burnaby Heights.

People love their pets.

This isn’t what any retailer would consider an ideal time to open a new store.

But pets still need caring for and people will do anything for their pets.

Which is why Global Pet Foods has opened a new location at 4293 Hastings St. in Burnaby Heights.

On election day, Oct. 24, Global Pet Foods has a grand opening event.

The all-day event includes a costume contest for any pet or pet parent who comes dressed up. Anyone (or any pet) in costume will also receive a free treat.

At 1:30 p.m., there will be a special “leash-cutting ceremony” Paul Holden, CEO of the Burnaby Board of Trade. Additionally, there will be door crashers, discounts, giveaways, grab bags, samples, and more.

To ensure the Global Pet Foods in Burnaby adheres to the physical distancing protocols, they will be limiting the number of customers in-store at a time, said a news release. All pet parents waiting outside for their turn to come in will be provided with hot beverages from JJ Bean, the local coffee shop. And of course they have a little something for the dogs waiting too: Primal pumpkin spice dog-safe lattes.

“It’s been an interesting year for everyone, and we are so thankful that our customers have shown such incredible support since we opened our doors in December of 2019,” says Amelia Kleinschmidt, owner of Global Pet Foods Burnaby. “We want to express our thanks back to our community, and what better way to do that than to host a grand opening with freebies, and big sales.”
