Parts of Lougheed Highway were previously closed by FortisBC as it replaced its gas line. Now it's proposing building a new gas line in Burnaby.

The new FortisBC gas line has now been built in Burnaby and Coquitlam, with 12 kilometres of new line successfully installed along Lougheed Highway, Bainbridge Avenue, Broadway, Gaglardi Way and Como Lake Avenue this year.

This means the company now has 20 kilometres of new gas line connecting Vancouver to Coquitlam, including eight kilometres built along East 1st Avenue and Lougheed Highway in 2018 as part of this project.

With the gas line installed, they are now finishing the restoration of a few remaining medians, intersections and sidewalks along the route. This work will take place in coming weeks. Next week it will include work at the following locations:

  • Broadway/Como Lake Avenue intersection with North Road; work is expected to take up to two weeks to complete
  • east and north of the Como Lake Avenue/Spuraway Avenue intersection with Mariner Way in Coquitlam; work will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and is expected to be completed next week
  • Madison Avenue between Lougheed Highway and Buchanan Street in Burnaby; work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and is expected to be completed next week.
