The Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre is gearing up for family fun for Family Day weekend.

The centre is hosting its Family Festival and Japanese Book Sale on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The fun will include a Japanese Culture Corner, where families experience traditional Japanese toys and hands-on crafts. There’s a sand art workshop set for 10 a.m. both days, and visitors can also experience Kamishibai, the traditional Japanese art of interactive storytelling.

On Sunday, families can enjoy Modest Heroes, a screening of Japanese anime, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Visitors can browse the widest selection of used Japanese books in Metro Vancouver at the book sale, which includes manga, CDs and DVDs.

And, of course, there will be plenty of delicious Japanese food made by local vendors.

The Nikkei Centre is at 6688 Southoaks Cres. Check out centre.nikkeiplace.org for all the information and links to register for workshops, or call 604-777-7000 for more details.
