Steelers stop Panthers in their tracks

Dryden Valade scored once and set up two others to pace the Grandview Steelers to a 4-1 victory over the Port Moody Panthers last Sunday.

The 19-year-old forward, in his first year with the Steelers after spending last year as a member of the Surrey Knights, opened the scoring 14:58 into the first period. Sixteen-year-old defenceman Quinn Myles notched his second of the season late in the second period to make it 2-0.

Burnaby native Anthony Benevoli extended the lead to 3-0 with his seventh of the season, before Port Moody broke Cale Dolan's shutout bid late in the period. Ethan Strik wrapped up the offence with a goal with 24 seconds left on the clock.

Grandview outshot the Panthers 35-18.

At 13-4-2-2, the Steelers sit seven points back of first-place North Van in the Tom Shaw Conference. They hold a one-point lead over third place Richmond, who pays a visit this Sunday to the Burnaby Winter Club (7:15 p.m.) to play Grandview.
