Walkers needed to support Burnaby dementia programs

Only 20% of British Columbians surveyed believe their community provides adequate support to help people affected by dementia.

Burnaby residents can help the Alzheimer Society of B.C. change this by registering a team in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, taking place on Sunday, May 3, at Burnaby Lake Rowing Pavilion.

This walk is the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s flagship fundraiser, with the society saying it provides a meaningful way for Burnaby residents to celebrate and remember people in their lives who have been affected by dementia and raise critical funds and awareness within the community.

“Seeing members of the community of all ages with their own unique stories come together and take part in the Walk is a highlight of our year,” says Sara Wagner, who is the manager of regional services for the Fraser Region at the Alzheimer Society of B.C. “Showing your support by entering a team makes such a difference in the fight to create a dementia-friendly community and help to find acure.”

Funds raised will help the Alzheimer Society of B.C. provide support and education programs that directly benefit Burnaby and New Westminster residents.

To set up a team, go to walkforalzheimers.ca and follow the prompts.
