Burnaby Village is open again - but don't expect a carousel ride

One of Burnaby’s favourite family summer destinations is open again – but it’s not quite business as usual. Burnaby Village Museum reopened on July 15 and is welcoming visitors for the rest of the summer (until Sept. 6).

There won't be any crowds like this (seen on a previous Victoria Day weekend) at the Burnaby Village Museum this summer - but the gates are open once again with new COVID-19 safety protocols in place.

One of Burnaby’s favourite family summer destinations is open again – but it’s not quite business as usual.

Burnaby Village Museum reopened on July 15 and is welcoming visitors for the rest of the summer (until Sept. 6).

The village has instituted a host of new policies in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, including reducing capacity and having all visitors enter through the main gate (the carousel entrance is closed). Since there’s a limit to the number of people allowed at one time, visitors may also need to wait in line for entry.

The biggest change for families? The historic C.W. Parker Carousel – a restored 1912 amusement ride - is closed because of the impacts enhanced cleaning would have on the hand-painted horses. The carousel pavilion and gift shop are remaining closed.

Elsewhere in the village, visitors will note limited access to the inside of exhibit buildings and controlled traffic flow through select exhibits. Visitors are also asked to follow directional signage, as routes have been established around the museum to control traffic flow and maintain physical distancing.

The Ice Cream Parlour remains open, with select menu items and for takeout only.

Water fountains are closed, so visitors are asked to bring their own pre-filled water bottles.

People who are sick or who have been exposed to COVID-19 are asked to stay home, and when on site visitors are asked to wash and sanitize hands often.

Families who enjoy the village’s regular scavenger hunts can print out their own Find the Flora scavenger hunt sheet from the website in advance of visiting.

Burnaby Village Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Sept. 6. Admission is free. See www.burnabyvillagemuseum.ca or call 604-297-4565 for information.
