On Thursday, April 2, I needed to take my elderly mother to Burnaby Hospital after she took a fall in her home on Tuesday evening.

As you can imagine, it was a difficult decision to make but after a phone consultation with her doctor on Wednesday morning, it had to be done. Thursday morning, my nephew and I took my mom in to the ER.

What I found was clarity of signage, clear directions and social distancing in effect. The nursing staff at the door took our details and we were ushered into the ER within 10 minutes.

We were seen by a triage staff within five minutes. Once we gave staff our details, my mother was given a mask and taken right in for examination. At this time staff asked me to leave.

About 2 p.m., I was called to pick her up.

The ER was quiet. Everything seemed orderly and under control. The staff were patient and kind.

Staff were wearing masks, gloves and in most cases gowns. Thanks to all the staff and administrators at Burnaby Hospital for their great work and their caring response for my mother in this very difficult time.
