This Burnaby cop lopped off his bodacious hipster beard to fight cancer

Cops for Cancer’s bike tour rolls into Burnaby on Monday and the public is invited to come out and support this worthy cause.

The event is at 2 p.m. at Burnaby City Hall.

What you’ll see are the riders who are raising money to fight cancer.

What you won’t see is the amazing beard Burnaby RCMP Const. Steve Roney normally rocks because he shaved it off to raise more than $600 for the cause.

As you can see from the photo, this beard was so good it would make hipsters on Commercial Drive drop to their knees and weep.

But, sacrifices need to be made if we’re going to beat cancer.

Cops for Cancer is a program launched in partnership between first responders across the country and the Canadian Cancer Society, to support children and families affected by childhood cancer.

The inception of this program began with one police officer and has been growing rapidly amongst communities across Canada. Since 1997, the program has raised over $42 million to fund life-saving pediatric cancer research and support programs. As one of the largest funders of pediatric cancer research in Canada, it has contributed to pediatric cancer survival rates which have increased from 71% in the 1980s to over 83% today.
