With Burnaby schools closing and TransLink saying service will be significantly slower today comes news that an entire road near Metrotown has been shut down due to the snow.

The City of Burnaby has posted a statement on its website saying that Royal Oak, between Rumble Street and Marine Drive, is currently closed.

This stretch of Royal Oak is a steep hill.

The city has also announced the closure of these roads:

Delta Avenue between Ridgelawn Drive and Lougheed Highway.

Beta Avenue between Brentlawn Drive and Lougheed Highway.

The city also says:

  • Our plows are working on clearing priority routes. Snow removal efforts will continue throughout the day.
  • Shovel crews are actively out clearing high traffic pedestrian areas.
  • Please keep the sidewalks on your residential or business property safe for everyone by removing snow and ice by 10:00 AM every day per the bylaw

The city is warning the public to show extreme caution on local roads.
