For the first game of 2020, the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club's women's first division crew came out firing on all cylinders.

The Burnaby Lake women wasted little time in setting the tone, trouncing the visiting Scribes 89-8 last week in Burnaby.

Weather played havoc with the women's schedule and caused a couple of matches to be rescheduled. The extra weeks of pre-season training paid off, as Burnaby completely dominated from the start.

Wing Sally Hillier and inside centre Brynna Walker led the way with three tries apiece, while fullback Alex Fern, flyhalf Leyhana Van Vugt and outside centre Alya Govorchin cashed in a pair each.

Rounding out the offence for the Lake squad were Jaclynn Quan, Shayna Sloban and co-captain Emily Van Gulik. Hillier would also contribute seven converts on the day.

This weekend, Burnaby's women head to Cowichan for a makeup game against the Castaways. On Feb. 22, it's a full day of rugby at BLRC with the premier men and premier reserves playing Vancouver.
