For 15 years, ElderCollege Delta has been providing interesting and informative educational programs for adults over 50 in South Delta.

A volunteer-led organization, ElderCollege Delta has attracted a large following of members who twice a year anticipate and happily participate in courses, field trips and Saturday morning special presentations.

For most of those years ElderCollege has operated under the umbrella of KinVillage Community Centre, but as of this spring, it has obtained society status and will be operating independently. However, the close relationship with KinVillage remains, and ElderCollege Delta will continue to be based at the Tsawwassen seniors complex.

The instructors and presenters are volunteers who are experienced in their respective fields. The upcoming fall semester begins in October and with a nominal $10 annual membership fee and modest individual course fees, making ElderCollege learning both affordable and varied.

There is an exciting line up of courses for this fall, including the popular technology courses, with sessions on Gmail and on various iPad topics. Or you can take a course on downloading photos from your camera or IPhone, playing online games or creating a photo book.

General interest courses this term include sessions on body language, superfoods, preserving family history, armchair travel, The Renaissance, Point Roberts history, art history, ballet and opera, to mention just a few. The science offerings will feature a focus on climate change.

A full listing of courses will be included in the Sept. 5 and 12 editions of the Optimist and brochures will be available at public libraries and recreation centres.

Online registration opens Monday, Sept. 16 at eldercollegedelta.wildapricot.org and in person registration is available at KinVillage the week of Sept. 16 to 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, or at Ladner Pioneer Library Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Inquiries on courses or other matters can be made via email at eldercollegedelta@gmail.com or by leaving a message at 604-943-0262.
