Mamas for Mamas South Delta helped brighten the day for 50 moms over the Mother’s Day weekend.
A parking lot party – all while social distancing and following COVID-19 health protocols --was held on Saturday, May 9 at Cedar Park Church in Ladner.
Andrea Delf, Vancouver executive coordinator for Mamas for Mamas, said the moms, who came from South Delta, Surrey and Richmond, received a selection of gifts, food and essentials from a host of sponsors and donors.
“We probably had 80 businesses donate things. They all basically had the chance to go shop,” said Delf. “They were handed a custom-made Mamas for Mamas bag and they could pick out whatever they wanted from jewelry, bath stuff, accessories and then packaged food items as well as diapers, flowers, chocolates.”
Delf said before the pandemic Mamas for Mamas had a much larger event planned, but had to shift plans in order to still hold an event that was safe for all.
“It was really lovely. It was a beautiful day… everyone got really spoiled,” she said.
Mamas for Mamas South Delta is a non-profit that supports mothers in a variety of ways, including filling the gaps in resources.
The group connects through a Facebook page designated to sharing resources and items. Moms are welcome to ask for items they need, give ones they no longer use or trade for others. No cash is allowed to exchange hands as kindness is the currency.
The group held a number of successful swapping events last year and also put together nine Christmas hampers.
