EastLink is pulling out of Point Roberts.

The cable company has informed residents of the American peninsula that it will be discontinuing service at the end of next month.

The company noted it wasn’t without lengthy and careful consideration that it made the decision, saying it’s no longer feasible to provide customers there with service at a reasonable price due to the increasing cost of maintaining the older system in the community.

“We remain fully committed to Delta, its people and our core, fibre-based network/services. Over the past 10 years, we have invested in excess of $50 million to connect Delta residents and businesses to the most advanced services including high speed internet (with speeds up to 1 GB), TV, smart home, and phone,” EastLink, which owns Delta Cable, noted in a statement to the Optimist.

“We are also proudly and deeply involved in the community through our community TV programming as well as support and sponsorship of local organizations and events like Tour de Delta, Delta Ice Hawks, Delta Sports Hall of Fame, skating shows, minor sports, Ladner May Days, North Delta Family Days, Tsawwassen Sun Festival, Delta Chamber of Commerce, Kidsport, Reach Child and Youth Development, live coverage of Delta council meetings, among many others.”

Two years ago the company announced that Delta Cable customers would no longer be able to pay their bills or deal with a service issue in-person at the company’s Ladner Trunk Road office.

EastLink took over ownership of Delta Cable in 2007, just a few months after the founding Thomas family sold the company to Persona. Persona was then acquired by Bragg Communications, which operates EastLink.
