More changes are coming to Delview Park.
Council this week approved a $62,500 contract for the supply and installation of off-leash fencing at the park, part of an overall improvement program for the site.
The current off-leash enclosure for dogs will be relocated to another part of the site and expanded.
In addition to $250,000 council had earlier allocated for the park concept plan, the province this year provided a grant of $175,000.
Currently, $335,000 remains after a new cricket pitch was built in a central area of the park this year.
The concept plans, approved by council, calls for the remainder of the money to be used for the new off-leash area, covered shelter and a batting cage.
The construction of a batting/bowling facility would further support the use of athletic fields by both cricket and ball during the spring and summer seasons, according to the city.
Practice times could be arranged for cricket participants using the new facility, the city notes, adding it ensures the athletic field is available for slo-pitch. The batting/bowling facility could also be used for batting and pitching practice for ball-diamond based sports.
Funding other improvements, which include the replacement of the washroom, was deferred until next year.
