The Bucks for Bananas campaign has been a huge success.

The idea of Tsawwassen author Carolyn Drew, who centred the fundraising and awareness campaign on the launch of her children’s book series, Drew and her husband Graeme just returned from a successful trip to Thailand where they visited several elephant sanctuaries.

“We are back from Thailand, and our Bucks for Bananas campaign was a huge success,” she said. “Our goal was to raise enough money for a ton of bananas, and we raised enough for four tons for the elephants. We delivered in person to Save Elephant Foundation at Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This was the elephant sanctuary featured in the documentary Love & Bananas that we screened at our book launch in October.

"Thank you to everyone who purchased our Roxi Books that raise awareness of animal issues like riding elephants.”

Drew said during their trip, they witnessed sad elephants and happy elephants.

“We hope the message in our Roxi Books will encourage others to seek out ‘ethical tourism’ initiatives when planning trips,” she said.
