Moonlight Gala raises over half a million for cancer care at Delta Hospital

The Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation raised over $588,000 in support of cancer care at Delta Hospital at the 21 st annual Moonlight Gala at Tsawwassen Springs on Nov. 2.

The Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation raised over $588,000 in support of cancer care at Delta Hospital at the 21st annual Moonlight Gala at Tsawwassen Springs on Nov. 2.

The sold out event brought together 350 business, community, government and medical leaders who were immersed in an Arabian Night full of exotic entertainment and a three-course meal.Once again, Sportsnet 650 radio personality and Tsawwassen resident James Cybulski led the way as emcee for a night of fun and fundraising.

“This year’s gala was a resounding success,” says Lisa Hoglund, executive director of the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. “We want to thank everyone who sponsored, donated and attended our gala to help raise this considerable amount of money. Special thanks go out to the gala committee headed by co-chairs Don Sangster and Maury Kask and all the volunteers who made this incredible event possible.” 

As part of the evening’s festivities, the foundation recognized the staff of Delta Hospital as this year’s Tribute Award recipient for their outstanding care, commitment and generosity within the hospital and community.

To celebrate the remarkable group of people, the foundation showed a fun “Caraoke” tribute video, sponsored by Port of Vancouver. Tom Corsie of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority presented the award to Teresa O’Callaghan, executive director of Delta Hospital, who accepted the plaque on behalf of staff.

After dinner, the entertainment and fundraising continued as Delta South MLA Ian Paton put on his auctioneer’s hat for a fast-paced live auction. An overwhelming display of generosity followed during the Fund a Need call out in support of cancer care for Delta Hospital.

The evening ended in the Genie Lounge with music by DJ Jai of GirlOnWax, accompanied by sax player Karla Sax and percussionist Pher.

The foundation wants to thank this year’s lead sponsors, Shato Holdings, Port of Vancouver, Cascades Casino Delta, Ocean Trailer and Westland Insurance.

The Moonlight Gala is the foundation’s largest annual fundraising event.
