Delta police have some good news and bad news to report regarding auto thefts in the past week.

“The good news is theft from autos were down this week from 13 to eight,” wrote DPD on a post on their Facebook page. “The bad news is that all eight thefts were of valuables left in plain sight in vehicles – on the car seat or dash.”
Police say the four files in Tsawwassen and four files in North Delta resulted in smashed windows with thieves stealing purses with cash and cards in them, tools, a cellphone, and a laptop.

“Police patrols can and do help prevent these thefts, but it’s simply not possible for our officers to be everywhere all the time,” said DPD. “A reminder to everyone, TFA's are crimes of opportunity. When you lock your door, make sure to check to make sure all valuables are out of the vehicle, or at least out of sight. Do not give thieves the opportunity. And please spread the word to friends and family who may not be on social media, or aware of how often and how easily this type of crime occurs.”

If you believe that your vehicle has been rummaged through and/or valuables have been taken from your vehicle, call the non-emergency line to report at 604-946-4411.
