West Shore Laylum Care Centre is excited to announce our plans to rebuild our care home on the current site, in the centre of Ladner, our home for over 40 years.

The new West Shore Laylum will be a West Coast contemporary design, three-storey care home with state-of-the-art technology.  We have purposely kept our footprint small to maintain the ambiance of our current small home and will provide excellent care to a maximum of 74 residents.

Arrangements have been made with Suncrest Retirement Community to provide a temporary home for all our residents and staff during the redevelopment. Suncrest Retirement Community is a brand new home located in South Surrey, a convenient 15-minute drive from our current location. We anticipate that Suncrest will be our temporary home for 18 to 24 months while the new West Shore Laylum is being built.

As we move closer to leaving, we are reflecting on the many years of care that have been provided within the walls of our little old nursing home and the kindness we have experienced from the Ladner community.

We wish to recognize all the people from this community who have volunteered their time, skills and talents in the selfless pursuit of making our residents daily lives happier and more content.

Our home filled with music and laughter thanks to community volunteers such as The Happy Wanderers, Young at Heart, The Glee Club, Learner’s Choir, Elders College Choir, Delta Music Makers, White Rock Mandolin and Assembly, and Loades of Music.

Our home filled with spiritual contemplations thanks to volunteers such as Hymn Sing with Kim Sandra and Claire, Father Jim and Evelyn, Paul and Leana’s Communion and driving volunteers from our local churches willing to escort our residents to Sunday services.

Our home filled with friendly companions thanks to our local elementary schools, Delta Secondary programs, South Delta Home School programs and special thanks to Jamie and Phyllis for helping every single month deliver the newsletters to our residents always with a smile.

Our home filled with garden views for flowers, squirrels and birds thanks to family volunteer gardeners.

Our home filled with Christmas gifts every season due to the great team at London Drugs organizing the Stocking Stuffers for Seniors program.

Our home filled with care and support from Delta Hospice volunteers, Delta Hospital and Community Care team and our neighbourhood homes such as Augustine House, The Waterford, KinVillage and Delta View.

Thank you to our local doctors, and especially Dr. James, for your guidance, commitment and compassion over the years and to all our former and current staff and families.

We have been privileged to be part of this strong community network and look forward to returning in a couple of years and renewing our old friendships.
