69th annual Hats Off Gala recognizes Delta's best

The Delta Chamber of Commerce went virtual to honour businesses and individuals with its 69th Annual Hats Off to Excellence Awards Gala on Nov. 19.

Long considered to be the premiere business event of the year, the Hats Off to Excellence Awards Gala is a high-profile, prestigious event for Delta business and individuals.

The evening also served as a fundraiser for Deltaassist’s holiday programs that had to be adjusted this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Monetary donations and gift cards are being collected to support these initiatives.

Here is a rundown of this year’s winners:

Citizen of the Year

Don Sangster.

Business of the Year

Winner: West Coast Seeds. Finalists: Alongside You, South Coast Casuals.

Rising Star

Winner: Barnside Brewing Finalists: Boca Grande Donut Shop, Ladner Village Physiotherapy.

Small Business

Winner: Ladner Village Market. Finalists: Avalon Dance Shop, Stir Coffee House.

Medium Business

Winner: Tsawwassen Shuttles Inc. Finalists: Il Posto Restaurant, Lady Bug'z Senior Lifestyle Assistant.

Large Business

Winner: Mario's Kitchen & Gracie's Next Door.  Finalists: Bria Communities and Nurse Next Door.

Excellence in Industry or Manufacturing

Winner: MTU Maintenance Canada. Finalists: North American Rail Products, VanGo Glass.

Environmental Leadership

Winner: Hydra Energy. Finalists: Deolia Waste Solutions and Seaspan Ferries.

Apprentice Sponsor of the Year

Winner: ATI Truck Repair Ltd. Finalists: McKim Mechanical, Absolute Plumbing Solutions.

Apprentice of the Year

Winner: Brandon Bowden. Finalists: Rory Steward, Ryan Hughes.
