The rain will make things a little better.

That’s what the regional district is saying as it is continuing the fine particulate matter advisory that has been in effect since Sept. 8 for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley Regional District.

It’s due to the wildfire smoke from outside the region.

Air quality has continued to improve since yesterday but ground-level smoke still remains and is expected to remain today, Metro notes.

A weather system forecast for tonight is expected to bring further improvements tomorrow and through the weekend.

Localized smoke concentrations may vary widely across the region as winds and temperatures change, and as wildfire behaviour changes.

Metro also notes that people with chronic underlying medical conditions or acute infections, such as COVID-19, should postpone or reduce outdoor physical activity until the advisory is lifted, especially if breathing feels uncomfortable.
